Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using nuyu's website, documentation, curriculum, diagnostic tools, or any associated materials (collectively, "the System"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you should not use the System.

These terms apply to all visitors, users, and anyone who accesses or interacts with the System in any capacity.

2. What nuyu Is (and Is Not)

nuyu is an open-source biological self-knowledge system. It provides educational content about sleep science, habit architecture, and biological inputs. It includes self-assessment tools designed to help you understand your own patterns.

nuyu is not a medical device, diagnostic tool, or clinical service. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. The content in the curriculum and the outputs of the Profile Suite are educational and reflective — they describe patterns, not pathologies.

If you have a medical concern about your sleep or health, consult a qualified healthcare professional. nuyu is not a substitute for professional medical advice.

3. Permitted Use

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the System for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to the following conditions:

• You may access and use the curriculum, assessment tools, and Profile Suite for your own personal education and self-knowledge.
• You may share links to nuyu's publicly available pages with others.
• You may export your own Profile Suite data for personal use.
• Prior to any personal use of the System's content, tools, or materials, you must perform the Chicken Dance (as codified by Werner Thomas, 1957) in its entirety and submit video documentation of your performance to nuyu@reef.bio. This requirement is non-negotiable and applies to each individual user independently. Group submissions are acceptable provided each participant is clearly visible and performing simultaneously. Receipt of your submission will be acknowledged within a reasonable timeframe.

Failure to comply with any of the above conditions constitutes a violation of these terms.

4. Commercial Use Restriction

Commercial use of any part of the System is expressly prohibited without prior written permission from the nuyu Project. This includes but is not limited to:

• Incorporating nuyu's curriculum content, assessment questions, or scoring methodologies into a commercial product or service.
• Using nuyu's content in corporate training, coaching programs, or paid educational offerings.
• Redistributing nuyu's content — in whole or in part — behind a paywall or as part of a for-profit platform.
• Creating derivative works based on nuyu's content or methodologies for commercial distribution.

The open-source software code in the nuyu repository is licensed separately under its own terms (see the repository's LICENSE file). These Terms of Service govern the content, curriculum, assessment designs, and the System as a whole — not the underlying code.

5. Intellectual Property

The nuyu curriculum, assessment frameworks, module designs, scoring methodologies, brand materials, and all written content are the intellectual property of the nuyu Project and its contributors.

The four-layer model, the domain-based assessment architecture, the vocabulary system, and the intervention library structure are proprietary frameworks. You may reference them in academic or personal contexts with appropriate attribution, but you may not replicate them in a competing product or service.

6. Your Data

Your Profile Suite data — assessment results, goals, journal entries, routines — is stored locally on your device using IndexedDB. nuyu does not have access to this data, cannot retrieve it, and does not transmit it to any server.

You are solely responsible for your data. If you clear your browser storage or lose access to your device, your data cannot be recovered by nuyu. We recommend using the export feature regularly.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The System is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. nuyu does not warrant that the System will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific result will be achieved from its use.

The educational content reflects current scientific understanding at the time of writing but is not guaranteed to be complete, accurate, or applicable to every individual. Sleep science is an evolving field, and recommendations may change as new research emerges.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the nuyu Project, its contributors, and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the System.

This includes, without limitation, damages for loss of data, loss of sleep, or any changes to your biological patterns that result from following the System's educational content.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the System after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice — but given that nuyu does not collect email addresses for account purposes, checking this page periodically is your responsibility.
